16/07/10 SAD NEWS FOR IRISH MUSIC
A double blow of sad news today - especialy for Ham Sandwich as not only did the band not 'walk' through the final round of the Moo sessions competition to play alongside Doves later this month, but the bands plans to record the final tracks for the new album have also been put on hold following the news that close friend and manager Derek Nally passed away yesterday.
Derek was a key figure in Irelands music scene and went out of his way to support and promote countless Irish independant bands over the years. He was instrumental in the creation of Irelands 'Oxegen' music festival (...a festival which continuosly sends the biggest 'signed' names of the music world home to their nations in a state of total awe from witnessing just a small snippet of the Irish music scene) and he was also a continual booking agent for Whelans and his contributions undoubtedly helped turn the venue into the world famous independant music venue that it is today. Countless musicians were put on the path to an active and prosperous music career because of his help and he was a mentor and close friend to many in the music industry and would allways go the extra mile. His loss to his family, friends is immense, and it will be felt throughout every inch of Irelands music industry and on both sides of the atlantic greatly.
We wish his family, his friends and especialy Niamh, Podge, Darcy and Ollie lots of love, comfort and peace. May the shock ,sadness and grief give way to fond and kind memories that can never be taken away.

30/6/10 HAM SANDWICH NEED YOUR VOTE
Ham Sandwich are among the final three bands left to vote for to play alongside The Doves at this years MooSessions in London so please vote for them here and please repost the link on any of your Facebook or MySpace pages...anyone who votes for Ham Sandwich and asks their friends to do the same could be in for a special cowpat on the back too as we'll be giving a carton of the bands new perfume 'MacNamee' to three random voters ....we would like to give a swig or two to everyone who votes for Ham Sandwich - but if we did that they'd be disqualified for bribery and corruption and for not including a tub of icecream in the deal!
Add our facebook and/or MySpace page above to your friend and 'like' lists and if you've asked your friends to vote for Ham Sandwich drop us a note and you may well get a carton too. There's more on the event here in the big ape's latest article on both Ham Sandwich and Saint Motels Hammer gig too
28/6/10 GETTING 'MINTED' AND 'HAMMERED' IN LA ...AND GETTING FIRED UP IN ICELAND...
If you're in LA tonight then get down to The Mint for 7pm to catch German Nu Metal rock god Christian Linke perform a rare solo acoustic set. Linke was the musical anchor for Nu Metal stadium giants PANIK and spent the last three years packing out Europes stadiums before moving to LA. So tonights acoustic set will be a real treet for anyone 'in the know' about Europes stadium rock scene. 'Linke's' debut solo ep is available online now with more Linke links here from 'the big ape'
PLUS...SAINT MOTEL are at it again with an aural artfest of sound at The Hammer Museum on July 1st from 7pm ( there's also a KITTEN in support too) but if you can't make LA then you can sit on your PC and tune into some of Icelands best new artists with special sets being broadcast live from Icelands volcanic landscape by Irelands GLEN HANSARD as well as some strange unknown fellah called DAMIEN RICE...Luervelee!...as they say in ICELAND
14/06/10 SAVE THE 25TH ANNUAL VIBE FOR PHIL LYNOTT AND STOP THE REMAINING LIZZY MEMBERS FROM MAKING THE BIGGEST MISTAKES OF THEIR LIVES.
Shortly before Phil's death he was chatting about the possibility of his passing with some friends. When close friend Smiley Bolger asked what they should do should the worst happen Phil's response was 'Throw me a Vibe sometime'. Every year on January the 4th, the anniversary of Phil's death, that is exactly what happens. Friends, fans and family from all over the world converge on Dublin to remember an artist and friend who has scince been dubbed 'the Elvis' of Ireland. It's one of the worlds and rock musics most unique events often featuring some of the best musicians in the world who still regularly and often freely attend to pay homage to one of rock musics greats.
This year The 25th Vibe For Philo is under threat. The remaining Lizzy members have shunned the Vibe and have instead teamed up with a concert promotor to take advantage of the anniversary of Phils death and renewed media interest by booking the Dublin O2 to host their own 'anniversary' show. The Vibe, Phils real friends, his mother and remaining family as well as the vast majority of Thin Lizzy's real fans from over the last four decades have been shocked, hurt and even outraged....the very future of Thin Lizzy as a credible band hangs in the balance. All Phil Lynott's family are asking is for the band to respect the memory of their son and to play Dublin on a different day and not to hijack the Vibe (which has itself been a major provider and platform for The Roisin Dubh Trust- a charity founded by Philomena Lynott in her sons memory to aid and educate many young musicians and artists over the last 24 years).
If the band doesn't change the date of their O2 concert there is little doubt that they will completely lose all credibility among not just Lizzy fans but music and rock fans of all kind worldwide.Scince Phil's death most Lizzy fans only support the current band out of respect and loyalty for Phils memory. Please visit the Vibe for Philo site and if possible please join the facebook group and help us to stop the remaining Lizzy members from making the biggest mistake of their lives.
(and don't forget to give Evolove some love by voting for them once a day at the link below too!!!)
With love and respect to Phil Lynott, Philomena, Smiley everyone at the 25th Vibe for Philo
08/06/10 EVERY LITTLE HELPS EVOLOVE
Those of you who have been following our MySpace (and the new facebook page...links above) will have noticed a number of blogs and articles on new bands which are not currently featured on the main site yet...One of the bands we covered was LA's Evolove and their recent exclusive MySpace exposure with their new video for the track 2012. Well, as we've noticed from recent tracking figures it seems that many of you lot out there have yet to venture into the social realms of MySpace and Facebook and so now Evolove are venturing out from the social networks to appear on a TV screen near you(...as long as you're in America that is). The band have entered into an advertising competition to play a song on a forthcoming credit score advert and after a brief 'job' interview and performance, the rest of the world has been asked to vote for the best band to perform the advert. Voting is incredibly simple and involves just two clicks with no sign up forms required to vote at all. Anyone can vote once a day from now until June 21st when hopefully 'Evolove' will be given the job!
Every little click helps - so please do at Evoloves 'Free credit score entry'
30/05/10 DENNIS HOPPER PASSES AWAY - A MUSICAL TRIBUTE IN THE FORM OF CORKS CHARLIE DONT SURF
Yesterday morning we got up surprisingly early for a saturday morning and got underway with a long overdue reshuffle of our 'MySpace' playlist and rearranged a number of videos on the page . Odi's new single 'Something Beautiful' was added to the front page video playlist and after a number of weeks in the top40 of the UK MySpace Indie and Rock overall charts 'A Superman' was brought down again to make way for the return of Cork Jam rockers Charlie Don't Surf's 'Waltz of the Wildebeest'- while their video for 'Djogo' was brought down to pave the way for 'The Good Fights new Irish single 'Hats and Sticks'. The Deadlies video (which still features in our 'front page video playlist') was replaced by The Shoos, The Deaf Animal Orchestra went for a tea break while classic tracks by Saint Motel and Zalinski were switched for even more classic tracks...by Saint Motel and Zalinski.
The switch over was completed by about 11am UK time and the next few hours were spent letting the featured bands know what we were up to and generally rocking out to some of our favourite friends tunes while deciding wether to write up some long overdue reviews or stay home and bake cookies instead.
Ironically just a couple of hours later while baking cookies in time to the sound of Waltz Of The Wilderbeest the news came through that the iconic actor Dennis Hopper - who's voice is actualy heard at the very begining of the instrumental - sadly passed away at 8am pacific time in LA. The world and a whole generation who were brought up and inspired by his roles in films such as Easy Rider and as 'the crazed photographer' in Apocalypse Now are sorry to see him go. His films championed an era in music and culture and his characterisations were allways unique.
We wish his family joy in their memories as well as peace and happiness in their future.
Even though Cork's 'Charlie Don't Surf' have yet to release the full session of 9 tracks that made up the non stop jam they originally recorded in 2005, we're pretty sure that Dennis would have been pleased to have been included in such an exceptional piece of music and proud that a new generation is still finding inspiration in his work. I've moaned at them to put the tracks out as an album for four years and somehow, I expect the 'easy rider' would probably have used a slightly stronger language to implore them to do the same!
If there was ever a fitting musical tribute for the wonderfull Dennis Hopper -aside of course from the soundtracks of EasyRider and Apocalypse Now - then surely Waltz Of The Wilderbeest must be it. Dennis was a man whose personal failings were often made public...but he lived through them and survived in a way that made him a great man and a wise man.
With love and respect to the family of Dennis Hopper,
Mairtin and theryanoriain22
The 'Ed' also wrote a little something on The Examiner today too

3/04/10 A SPECIAL MESSAGE FOR THE VILLAGERS CONNOR O'BRIEN ON BEHALF OF EVERYONE FEATURED IN THE RYAN ORIAIN 22.
Connors sister Aoife passed away over the weekend
There's something about our Irish music scene that is totally
unique to the world...there's a unity and sense of togetherness among
our creative community that just doesn't exist in the same way among
other nations. We trample the same boards, share each
others kit, star...e daydreaming out through the same windows and share the same dreams. When one of us achieves those dreams there is no envy, only intense pride that one of our own has had his gifts and talents recognised. So wether we're peddling our tunes, poems or lyrics from a PC in a squat or mansion in Boston, a hat on Grafton Street or from a million pound contract with universal, there's a sence of equality, respect and kinship throughout the Irish creative musical community that binds us together like no other nation on earth.
So when one of us is hurting, the rest of us feel it just as keenly and I know that everyone from every signed or unsigned band (on or off theryanoriain22) feels a deep sorrow for you Connor and for your family and for all your close friends among Villagers. When one of us
mourns, we all mourn. And Connor, on behalf of everyone we call a friend on the scene and everyone among your second family throughout the Irish scene, we all wish you peace, comfort and love and we know that, just like the rest of us, Aoife must be so proud of everything you have already achieved and of everything you will continue to achieve throughout the coming years.
18/04/10 OOER...AREN'T THE SKIES QUIET?
If you live in the UK, Eire or Europe there's a slight chance that you might have found yourselves surprisingy stunned at the silence caused by the lack of air traffic now that the continents jumbos have all been grounded. Surprising just how load they were isn't it...the thirty years that slowly led up to our skies being allmost as loud as a motorway crept past our ears almosy unnoticed untill the noise stopped!
The only problem is...there ain't arf gonna be alot of gigs cancelled too! LA's Coachella is missing a few artists because of it and a number of bands and artists are stuck on different sides of the pond because of it too.
Well if you're in London, don't woory, because unless the Irish Sea suddenly turns into a bubbling couldron of Icelandic lava there is still one set of giggs that won't be cancelled (as the artist concerned is getting the ferry instead!)
BILL COLEMAN will be hitting London for the following dates so make sure you catch him while you can! There's a spot of vintage Bill Coleman on our Supergroups Ireland page rocking out in an Irish version of 'Say it like you mean it' just to make english speaking fans jaws drop... and there's a whole feast of 'english' jawdroppers on his MySpace too...If you've never heard of Bill before, check our links and get along to a gig soon...
Bill Colman in London at....
20th April - The Flowerpot - 147 Kentish Town Road, London, London and South East NW1 8PB
21st April - The Regal Room - The Distillers, 64 Fulham Palace Road, Hammersmith, London W6 9PH

SO GET TO IT!!
17/1/10 THE RYAN ORIAIN22 ON MYSPACE HITS THE TOP TEN OF THE UK INDIE OVERALL CHART ...
After a week of hovering around at number 20, on Saturday we suddenly discovered our Mypace page at number 10 in the chart (we'd dropped from 17 to number 38 on Friday) and today (Sunday) found us rising to number 8 in the MySpace list of top Indie playlists and pages. Unfortunately this has caused our editor a slight dilema as our MySpace blog explains below...(weve addd links to our band write-ups below with more of the worlds best throughout -with the occaisional sneek preview on our MySpace page in the link above)....
"The problem with finding yourself in the top ten of any major Indie chart is that it sets off a bit of a dilema...unlike other musical 'jazrags' we're genuinely 100% behind every single band, artist, songwriter, director and producer we feature on all the pages of theryanoriain22.com and we genuinely believe that they are all the very best bands in the entire world. But...our MySpace playlist onlyhas enough room for ten tracks! So that means that right now only ten of our bands can actively boast of being in the top ten of the MySpace UK Indie overall chart (-everyone an the page is part of the top ten -and their videos are obviously a major reason behind anyone returing to our MySpace page too-but apparently its the playlist itself that governs the chart).
But we want all our friends in the top ten...so that means we have to take tracks down
Aaaaaaarg!! See our dilema? every track we ever add is far too good to ever take down and every time we do it it feels like someones sawing a leg off without using any anesthetic..and which ever track we add we know we'll end up feeling exactly the same way once we take that one down ! But needs must, and while were enjoying a feint ray in the limelight were determined to share our apparent page success with as many of our world class bands as we can and every day we'll be sawing our legs off and screwing another pair on untill all our bands can boast to their sceptical friends 'we're in the top ten of the UK Indie Overall MySpace chart!' So if you're a fan of real music please keep playing our playlist until the whole world knows where to find the best independant bands on the planet (and all their MySpace urls are in the photos on the playlist...just hover over the picture with your mouse so you can copy and paste their urls into your browsers or find them in our top friends too). We'll add the band names here to keep you all updated.
So this week our chart busting top ten bands who have put us in the MySpace Indie Overall chart for the UK are...
The Dirty 9's - Lucy Opus (From Dublin Ireland)
Vivid Sky (Featuring Sound legend Stuart Epps on the dials and backing vocals)-Man In Black. (From Torbay,England)
Miracle Bell- Into The Trees (Naas Na Ri! ..thats 'Naas of the kings',Ireland)
The Incisors - Indonesia (From England and Colorado, based in London)
Stubb - Road (from Cornwall, based in London )
The Scenery - Stay Clear (From Detroit and Mesa based in Mesa Arizona)
Joshua James - Lovers Without Love Like Me( Who has spent so much time touring that he probably cant remember where he's from, based in everywhere theres a venue USA!)
The Fores- Roll Of The Dice (another rock masterpiece with Stuart Epps on the Dials! From Liecester, England)
Zalinski-This Too Shall Pass (From Everywhere..but mostly England and Wales, based in London)
CharlieDontSurf- WaltzOfTheWilderbeest (Possibly the best instrumental trio of non stop jamrockers in the entire world!! from Cork, Ireland)
But hang on there's more...tonight weve added Saint Motel- Dear Dictator( the boys from LA recently made musical history when their six track debut ep was the first ever iTunes album to be sold with an accompanying video for every single track and is being hailed as one of the best ever debuts!...keep an ear out for another Saint Motel track soon that will have the entire world re enacting the Pete Townsend Windmill on their air guitars )
Plus weve re added Phoenix Williams -Everythings Good (the stunning debut single and album version with possibly one of the best pieces of sound production of the decade...as well as Pink Floyd styled backing vocals that will put your mind up into you're own great gig in the sky) Phoenix is from Blackpool England and is currently based in Brighton and London.
All I have to do now is close my eyes very tightly and saw my legs off !!
More new tracks and decapitations tomorrow!!!
Love to all our friends,
Mairtin and theryanoriain22"
11/1/10 WELL HOW DID THAT HAPPEN??
Last night we recieved a friend request on the Official MySpace page for The Ryan-O'Riain22 from a gifted new singer songwriter from Guernsey in the Channel Islands called Ian Sinclair (Ian is soon to be featured on our supergroups pages, but you can jump the gun and find just how talented his vocals and songwriting is for yourself by checking him out at MySpace.com/iamsinclair )..anyway he gave us the slightly mystifying news that he had discovered The Ryan O'Riain22 MySpace page on the Official Myspace UK Indie Overall Chart at number 21!! ...Well how'd that happen??? (Our MySpace page gets less than a tenth of the views of our '.com' and we're up in the chart above much more publicised and media aired names such as Florence and The Machine, The Yeah,Yeah,Yeahs,The Arctic Monkeys etc etc etc...Was it a joke? a cock up? or a genuine chart position we wandered...? Well the answer is its a genuine Indie Chart position which means that we owe a special thanks to everyone who has clicked on our MySpace page and listened to any of the gifted bands and artists who have generously added their songs to our playlist and have made our site do 'just what it says on the tin' by airing, unvieling and discovering the very best independant artists and bands and music in the entire world - long before any of the the major labels start to swarm around our musical honeypots! (and 'swarm' they do!). UK band Vivid Sky have also entered the top 100 of the UK Indie Overall Song Chart at number 90 with their new track mixed by sound icon Stuart Epps( who also guested as a backing vocalist) called Man In Black...other bands on the playlist to share the credit with are The Incisors (the gifted new London based trio soon to be featured in our upcoming Supergroup UK pages). Zalinski, The Fores and STUBB (the UK's other top indie rock bands). Irelands The Dirty Nines (soon to dominate the venues and airwaves of the UK and beyond on their upcoming tour), Miracle Bell and Corks awesome jamrock trio Charlie Dont Surf. While from the States we have Arizonas awesome The Scenery and Joshua James (often refered to as the best folkrock singer songwriter to emmerge from the States scince Niel Young!).
But credit also has to go to the high quality videos made by all our featured bands over recent months...in particular Saint Motel, The Silversun Pickups,The Deadlies, Megasoul Connector (and thats just from LA!) The Beautifull Bodies (Kansas) Kill The Drama (Philedelphia) Charie Don't Surf(...again!!), Skully and Mettisse (whos own fans have been loyal friends to both theryanoriain22 and all our featured artists, The Deaf Animal Orchestra (...Up The Deise!) Ilya K (Up The Diese Again!!) Irish Trance and Dance Rockers extreme Le Galaxie, Ham Sandwhich (and especialy Killian Broderick, Irelands own special Director and video creator extroadinaire) The Kill City Defectors ( and yet another Irish video Director extroadinaire Dom Browne), Bill Coleman, Glen and Mar and Colm MacConIomaire and Graham Hopkins and Johnny Boyle aka The Swell Season and The Frames (see guess who won an oscar photo), Johnny Fean, Charles O'Connor, Eamon Carr, Jim Lockheart and Barry Devlin aka HORSLIPS,the UK's Part Time Heros....oh damn it...basically every single artist who has had a song or video featured on our sites.
Just wait till they tell me were number 1 in the chart....then I'll realy waffle!!
But the real chart toppers truly are every single artist who has added to and become a friend of theryanoriain22 over the last few weeks, months, years and decades...every single one of whom deserve to be forever at number one!

7/1/10 CHERIO TO A FEW DIGITAL VENDORS...
For the last three years we've highlighted a few 'digital' downloads centred on the music industry, musical tuition, writing and performance etc. These had been marketed by american vendors 'paydotcom.com' and 'clickbank' and owing to the fact that niether network has payed either ourselves or it seems the original authors of those programs we can only assume that both networks are failing to deliver on advertised 'services'. We may readmit some of the content in future -but only as and when we can deal with the original content authors directly.
We are sorry if anyone has been inconvenienced by any product removals. We are usualy more than happy to go out of our way to support any artist at our own expense and without ever requesting anything in return...but if a particular network is boasting of making millions and not paying those who are actualy providing the only genuine content and 'doing the leg work' then we can no longer afford them any support or recognition. The reason why 95% of all affiliates never recieve a penny is quite simply because the networks dont track the sales and dont want to pay if they can get away with it.
Both networks were given three years to prove themselves and their methods to be genuine and honest - niether bore any fruit so we've lopped them off with our big editorial axe to make room for even more true and genuine artistic talents and authors instead.
1/1/10 A FEW XTRA FRONTPAGE VIDS FOR THE NEW YEARS PARTY WEEKEND...
Just for the party weekend we've added a handfull of extra videos from some of the top international indie bands from within the pages of The Ryan O'Riain22. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!
26/12/09 SAVE A LIFE FOR XMAS AND THE NEW YEAR WITH THE HELP OF VIOLENT KIN AND UNICEF ( FOR THE REST OF THIS WEEK ...PLEASE!)
If you're reading this then you're either sat in front of a PC or on a mobile...
So that means you're a lucky bugger who has, regardless of wether you desrved it or not, been born into a family that could afford to eat and didn't have to send you down the sewers or up a chimney to be able to afford one. They didnt sell you into prostitution to wealthy tourists and they didn't have to send you out to rummage through desease infested rubbish tips while never being innoculated against the simplest of illnesses or deseases. An insect bite probably wont kill you and try as you might, you'll never catch leprosy no matter how many times you cut or scratch yourself....
In lifes lottery you are one of the luckiest buggers on the planet !
This Christmas you could allways shed a few shekels and help the other have of the world who didn't land on their feet when they were dragged kicking and screeming into the world.
Vilent Kin have for the last ten days been giving all their songs from their debut album away for free. From now until the 30th they're giving us a little opportunity to spread a teeeny piece of our undeserved fortune and luck to those children who are rummaging through the rubbish tips and playing russian roulette with cholera everytime they have a cup of water.
All you have to do is buy it for a measely $5 (or for more if you want too) and SJ and Maygen will hand your pennys, cents, shekels and yen over to UNICEF so they can continue sending gutsy people into lifes sewers, brothels and malarial swamps and rubbish dumps to try and take the children out and give them back something of the childhood that most of us took for granted.

....seems like a good idea to me. It could also mean that someone else on the planet might get the chance for their own 'Happy New Year' too...though I'm sure that some would be gratefull enough just to survive another week or month, let alone another year.
Happy Chist (I'm far too busy for p** ups and me own birthday party while mankind is still far too busy shagging up the planet and each other) mas and a happy new year
Lots of Love

SONG OF SURVIVAL: SINEAD O’CONNOR AND MARY J. BLIGE RECORD
TO BRING AWARENESS TO SEX TRAFFICKING OF AMERICAN GIRLS
Renowned recording artists SINEAD O’CONNOR and MARY J. BLIGE have joined forces for a remake of O’Connor’s 1996 song, ‘This is To Mother You’ as a part of the Girls Are Not For Sale campaign to bring awareness to the issues of child sex trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of American girls. The song’s proceeds will benefit GEMS: Girls Educational and Mentoring Services, the nation's largest non-profit organization designed to empower American girls and young women, ages 12-21, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking.
‘This Is to Mother You’ is produced by MARTIN ‘DOC’ MCKINNEY (Sting, Alice Smith, Esthero) and ALI SHAHEED MUHAMMAD (A Tribe Called Quest, Lucy Pearl), and mixed by JOE ZOOK (Pink, Kelly Clarkson, OneRepublic).
“I am moved by the really important work that GEMS is doing,” says O’Connor, who has consistently used her voice to advocate against injustices impacting children. “I was delighted to contribute my song to the campaign if it can help and inspire women and children to feel safe.” O’Connor recorded at Dublin’s legendary Windmill Lane Studios (also dubbed ‘the Horslips or U2 Studio’) this summer.
Mary J. Blige, who was invited to participate by O’Connor, recorded at Germano Studios in New York City alongside newcomer and GEMS member MARTHA B. “When I read the lyrics to ‘This is to Mother You’ I really fell in love with the song,” says Blige, who like most Americans was unaware of the prevalence of child sex trafficking stateside until her introduction to GEMS. “It describes how I feel about my work and how so many fans view me – as a mentor and a mother figure. It has always been my dream to be able to encourage women and let them know that if I can make it, they can make it too despite any physical and emotional abuses they may endure.” ....
“I’m honored that Sinead donated the song for our campaign,” adds Rachel Lloyd, Founder and Executive Director of GEMS and one of Ms. Magazine’s ’50 Women Who Change the World’. “To have artists of her and Mary’s caliber taking a stand and joining our campaign to promote girls empowerment and education as critical tools in the fight against child traffickers is incredible. It is even more special to have Martha, a GEMS member who I have known since she was 14, realize her dream and be included on this song.”
“This song is so true to GEMS and how it is impacted my life,” says Martha, now 21. “GEMS and Rachel have truly been a mother to me.” Martha is also featured in the critically acclaimed Showtime documentary, 'Very Young Girls' that follows thirteen and fourteen year old American girls served by GEMS as they struggle to overcome the trauma experienced at the hands of traffickers and pimps on the streets of New York. The film is currently available online and on DVD at Netflix.com.
“There’s so much in this song that speaks to the way we feel about the young women and girls we serve at GEMS especially in terms of being protective and maternal towards them,” says Lloyd, a survivor of commercial sexual exploitation as a teen in Europe. “It is also speaks to the way we feel they should be treated by society in general. They should be protected and not sold.”
This Is to Mother You is executive produced by RACHEL LLOYD (GEMS) and BRIDGIT ANTOINETTE EVANS (Fuel) with supervising producer PAUL HECK (Red Hot), engineered by TIM MARTIN (Dublin) and CHRISTIAN PARKER (New York), with vocal production by FOC187 (Dublin), Sinead O’Connor (Dublin) and Mary J Blige (New York).
“This Is to Mother You” goes on sale tomorrow December 2nd at http://gems-girls.org and most major retailers
25/11/09 DONT LOOK DOWN ON YOUR HUMBLE ORIGINS..
A few hundred years ago a few intermittant shiploads of badly dressed europeans set out from the UK to avoid the gathering storms of religeous and sectarian persecution. As the sectarian and political divides swung back and forth over the next few centuries in England, Ireland and nearly every other nation in the world the scenario was repeated again and again. A hundfull of poor yet gratefull refugees would leave behind everything they've ever known to forge a new life far away from home. When those very first families found themselves in an alien environment they struggled against the elements and the unknown to survive...to them the daily process of 'thanksgiving' was not just a tradition it was a daily reality as there was no one else to turn to for help (eventual taxes yes, but help no). Those very humble origins led on to the birth of a new nation, independance and greater things as it eventualy rose to become one of the most powerfull and culturaly influencial nations on earth...so no matter how small you think you are allways value your smallness as your own 'independance' will take you on to greater things - wether your eating a giant grousse in a new land far away or fiddling around with pro tools to record your first demo.A very Happy Thanksgiving to everyone stuffing their turkeys in the US and to everyone in the rest of the world regardless of nation or faith from everyone in, on or at The Ryan O'Riain22

31/10/09 Halloween playlist..PARENTAL ADVISORY
We've added a little 'halloween playlist' to the front page for the coming week only. PARENTAL ADVISORY IS ISSUED as some videos will prove quite disturbing for younger children and some may well scare the pants off older children too. Avoid the final video like the plague if you have a heart condition or a nervous disposition (but it does shed some light on why the MySpace location for the Official MySpace Ryan O'Riain 22 is listed as Uzbekistaan..it is actualy a pun on the old anglo saxon phrase 'uz beck ist aan?' meaning 'who's ditch is that?'..the slightly green and dishevled appearance of our editor was due to excess amounts of green guiness on St Patricks night the previous evening and the grumpy demeanor was added to somewhat when the cameraman trod on him in his ditch).

18/08/09 ACOUSTIC CORNERSTONE RECORDING LIVE SHOWS IN COBH THIS WEEKEND!!!
In the early seventies a couple of Irish guys walked into Chrysalis Records in London, got out their guitars and played a few tunes in the reception that made the entire office stop in their tracks and listen intently while trying to put their eyeballs and lower jaws back into place.Tir Na N'Og means 'The Land Of Youth' and was the magical celtic heaven..Leo O'Kelly and Sonny Condelleerily managed to recreate that heaven acousticly through hauntingly surreal folk songs and became the utterly unique European answer to Art and Garfunkel throughout that decade. They're still at it after all this time and (besides being owed a very long overdue article on their acoustic greatness by us) they have been busy touring and inspiring musical magazine writers all accross the globe scince uploading their classic song to MySpace and other sites...there MySpace url is www.myspace.com/tirnanogduo
So if you live within travelling distance of Cork and want to get the sound of your jaw dropping onto their forthcoming live album here's the details as posted by the boys who are still jamming in the land of eternal youth.....

9/6/09 Special Double A sided single release by The Deaf Animal Orchestra and Shane Barry And The Distractions.....
TUT TUT! Our editors been at it again! This time he's been spreading the word on our 2006/07 Originality Award Winners new shared single release by writing the following to various 'other' music sites and magazines first..tut tut tut!
Shane Barry and The Distractions/ Deaf Animal Orchestra AA single release
« on: Today at 01:37:58 AM »
Two of Waterfords best Indie bands have come together to release a double A sided single release worth it's weight in Gold. The Deaf Animal Orchestra and Shane Barry And The Distractions may seem very different in musical style and image ...but the new double A release has found a perfect pairing in the songs called 'No Wit Can Save Me Now' and 'A Man Called Gerald'.
The Deaf Animals 'No Wit Can Save Me Now' is yet another in a long line of lyrical classics that weave through a miriad of softly sung and almost spoken words - like a Shakespearean soliliquay of love for the 21st century ..and with all their other previous ep and single releases being heavily laced with intense drama, thrills and the occaisional deadly dose of venom, songs by these 'animals' often play out with more drama than Macbeth,Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet combined.
Musicaly, they are a band that critics would find hard to pin a genre to and as 'No Wit' proves ,they can expertly glide in and out of any genre they so choose at the drop of a hat. Stormy and classic indie, metal, pop and rock is sailed through at ease by these expert musical mariners and 'No Wit' ticks off yet another genre by easing it's way through an almost 50's Everly Brothers style and yet somehow utterly surpasses it completely . Now I hate most slushy 50's styled music with a passion and personaly, always found the 50's pop scene to be fake and contrived - but the combination of searching lyrics to expose the desires and weaknesses of a certain four letter word that most struggle over with a beautifull and surprisingly gentle melody must surely ammount to a 'must have' classic worthy of a number one anywhere in it's own right.
So add Shane Barry and The Distractions 'A Man Called Gerald' into the equasion and you're now looking at a 'double number one'.
The Distractions and Shane are another band of very highly skilled musicians and deliver an incredibly tight sound which could almost be compared to Dexy's Midnight Runners amid a head on collision with Ian Dury's 'Blockheads', The Commitments (-without the in-fighting and the girls-)and The Blues Brother's tailor and band. An already upbeat tune spliced through with an 'East-end style on the ole Joanna', is punched up even higher through the roof by some excellent, intricate, rythum and lead guitar, only to be sent even further on into orbit above the Diese with some rocket powered bursts of what must be the nations tightest brass section.
Barry's dualisticly serious yet (on the video at least-)somehow almost comic delivery style gives the track that little tweak of curious mirth to seep into the pores and tickle the hearts 'curious for more strings' with ease...and even the slightest of searches throughout their MySpace will, just as with the Deaf Animals', reveal an enormous wealth of musical riches that defy traditional 'genre' and 'image' placement by transcending all the cliches through an incredibly gifted catologue of sound.
The special Vinyl release only for this double A collaboration is June 12th 09...so if you don't have a record player with stereo compatable stylus heads anymore then this single will be a perfect excuse to go out and buy one and see the difference it makes. Classic cover photography by Al Higgins adorns the new single released through Irelands Primate Records with more reasons to buy it found through the sound and video samples of both bands MySpace pages....

Irish Indie Music Update: 23 Feb 2009, 23:22
Stop this very special 'road' from closing and instead please help to turn it into a motorway!!!!
The Irish Indie and underground music scene is probably the most creative and vibrant in the entire world and for the last eleven years the main source of access that the rest of the world had to tap into that source 'physically' has been ROAD RECORDS in Dublin. It's a pricy buisness to run an independant music store in Ireland these days and there have even been times when Road's owners Julie and Dave have gone out of pocket just to support new releases by struggling artists. While the worlds banks are busy turning the ordinary man over in the street and helping to flush their futures away in a cess pit of monitary greed it seems that the resulting lack of cash to spend in the everyday pocket is also sucking Road Records down the pan with it...But Road is a vital link in Irelands musical chain and many of the nations fans and bands just dont think this particular chain should be flushed. They are now putting on a special concert to help save Dave and Julie's treasured link and put a little back into their pockets as a special thankyou for supporting Irelands finest Independants for so long - and so often out of their own pockets and without complaint!
Some treasures should just be saved...there is more on the special gig in Dublins Andrews Lane on 14th March featuring the likes of Jape, The Frames' Colm MacConIomaire and many more at Dave and Julies Myspace at....http://www.myspace.com/roadrecords (direct link now under the Glen Hansard/Marketa Irglova Oscar award pic -below right)
ROAD UPDATE 24/3/09
Due to the amazing response from musicians and fans alike Road records has had a reprieve from the 'greed' reaper and will continue to trade. Hoooray!!! But please don't forget them and do make sure you check them out when searching for some of the best new indie Irish artists on cd and/or vynyl.
...And yes, we do know that Colm couldn't make the gig due to an eye injury that day.
* That curious Hideout Records competition previously advertised at the Dublin music show has now ended..We had tipped Simon Delaney's entry as the most worthwhile entrant, though on closer examination of the studio and label concerned it seems that the Hideout competition may have been better suited to entries looking for a musical career on Craggy Island as opposed to up and coming bands of the future looking for a spotlight among the cutting edge of Irelands new wave of prolific gifted artists. Simon's band called THE COLD 100 is still one to look out for for new recordings in the coming months and can be found at the link button below and to the right. Live shows in the Dublin area have all been highly recomended too! Another Indie band with a big bright future we think....
