Every now and again a group of mates and musicians will get together and something somewhere will just 'click' . The sound will be just right and the lyrical inspiration will be spot on for it's time and place. Before they know it their gigs will be selling out and the worlds media will be chasing them with all kinds of contracts in tow. One minute your humbly 'dossing' about in a shed, the next you are your nations new supergroup inspiring generations to come.
This page is our other top tipsters for the supergroups of tomorow. With only two days to go before the rest of the UK( then the World) discovers them on T4'S T -in-the -park event (Friday 6th July 2007 , 6.45pm on the T-break stage) we thought we'd pre-empt the goldrush with 'a wee snippet' of a ( as yet unsigned) band to watch out for -as we think in won't be too long before avoiding them will be impossible!
From Rosyth in Scotland they are set to become one of Scotlands all time greats and they are 'The Draymin'. We've included a couple of tracks as a tiny taster and a couple of links to their MySpace and Moonfruit site. Ten out of ten for perfect timing and sound - they are just the right kind of band to fill the industry breach - and the UK has been crying out for a band like this for the last decade. Our sneek peek taster tracks are : taster 1 - I'm There and Taster 2 - Don't Fade Away

Post T-in The Park Update. 17/7/07
OK ... So Al Gore's little world wide musical escapade stole some of the wind (-in terms of national and international televised airtime-) from The Draymins sails that weekend ... and yes, OK.. we know there were over 100 bands and musicians at Scotlands main event for their own 'T-in the Park' that particular weekend, But ... we stand by our words as far as The Draymins future is concerned . Out of all the new and up and coming bands currently emmerging from Scotland ,The Draymin is definately the most commited in terms of perseverance , potential and musical creativity.
"But what about America ?" Some of you have been asking recently,
"Who's your top tip for the States"
One rock band we feel may very well fill (and overflow from) the gaps left by Guns And Roses and Nirvana at the turn of the century is up and coming Utah band 'The Almost'. Unfortunately, 'Bwittish entwepwenuwer, Thir Wichard Bwanthon' spotted them first and signed them up before anyone else could get a look in..So, until we hear from Virgin Records, we can't give you a taster just yet, but they can on MySpace. Their debut album out now is entitled 'Southern Weather' and we've given them seven out of ten, which (as we have never seriously given anyones debut album ten out of ten) is pretty much the top marks possible....almost.
THE ALMOST MySpace
Our next top tip is not only not a band but a brilliant guitarist and a pioneer of his own musical genre which is on the verge of exploding throughout the Americas and will no doubt take Europe by storm also. It's not often that you hear something genuinely new in the music buisness, but Louis Monterrosa aka The Genie is a must see and must hear artist who has cracked it by taking the best elements of the new genres of the last thirty years ( -such as hip hop, reggae, garage, live looping, rock, sequencing and sampling, beat box,trance...the lot -)and blended it with middle eastern musical overtones to give it a subtle yet dynamic twist. You would think that such a wide ranging fusion would sound terrible but his 'do anywhere and anytime' instant riffs and mixing holds a totally unique and at times awsome sound - no wonder he calls himself 'The Genie'. His method is remarkably simple...play a small riff, feed it into a looping sequencer and then repeat the process with more riffs and effects , vocalised beat box 'mike' slobbering drum riffs and vocals. Well so what? you might say (especialy if you're a musiciain or mc) - weve been doing stuff like that for years... But what sets The Genie apart from everyone else is his skill as a guitarist and his ability to build highly complex sounds from scratch - all live and 'on the spot' without pre-recorded backing tracks. The new musical genre is called 'Scatch Guitar' and The Genie is to this genre as Bob Marley is to reggae... It's principal spokesman, pioneer and inspiration. Two links to view , first is his myspace page and second is a short film on the Genie made for Google Current TV...
Keeping with the subtle middle eastern twist we have one more lead guitarist worth more than a mention or two. The setting for this genre is 'Nu Metal' but the national root is Iran. Playing rock music there is a scary occupation as not only is it frowned upon by many -in much the same way as Irelands culturaly explosive rock cornerstone was when they emmerged in 1970 (see our rock cornerstone page to see why) but, occaisionaly in Iran, it could also mean losing your liberty - (which was once the case for many rock musicians under general Franco's Spain in the not so distant past). Despite the risks many musicians and bands are raising their heads above the cultural parapet (Meera being the most well known). This particular musician is running along the top of it, proud of his ancestoral roots and singing in both Farsi (Persian) and English. A few thousand years ago - before Alexander trounced it- Persia ,or Iran, was once the worlds original cultural melting pot and centre of free speech and religeous tolerance. This is something Iranians are very proud of in spite of the current 'Axis of evil' labelism yet many musicians loyal to their roots can only freely excercise their creative abilities by leaving the country. This guitarist is one of those who has chosen to remain and his abilities are at times comparable to and equal to Pink FLoyd's David Gilmour (listen to the sample of the 'Wasted Man' track to judge for yourself on his site below) - so don't be blinkered by the Nu Metal 'tag' this 23 year old is a real pro destined -we think- for great things. His name is Amir Badamchi - founder of Mirage town and currently in the middle of recording his debut album in Tehran. His site is a flyer -but with some
excelent sound samples
