When AA Milne wrote those stories about Winnie The Pooh and Tigger, little did he know of the astounding effect those slightly insane tales and poems would have on the young Christopher Robin as he meandered into adulthood via Kildare...Now that young Christopher has come of age he's cast away the brollies and plastic wellies and tightened the straps on some highly electrified guitars, drums, synths and bass with more bounce than a thousand Tiggers and Roos could muster to go dancing into those Irish rainstorms with. They also seem to be attracting more than their fair share of the 'hunney' too...but then, if you're that young, usualy male, have your own nice hair , bath frequently, wear clean clothes and sound THAT good... then being stalked by endless 'Hunney' jars is only to be expected. Their debut album, entitled ' We Are Your TV ' should be available at any moment as well as a forthcoming video to complement their debut single 'Warning Sign' (currently available as a download ) all to coincide with the round up their UK and Eire tour for 2008. Bands, fans, hunneyz, and drooling, slobbering labels can start to froth at the mouth by exploring the sound of this explosive new supergroup with a mouthwatering future to look forward to at this link...
Here's a band who are anything but insignificant and they're also putting the wilds of Galway firmly on the map for 'places to find the best rock bands in the world' . After first starting out as a cover band for a local 'Battle of the Bands' competition as a joke they surprised themselves by winning it. They decided to continue playing together as a cover band until it quickly became apparent that their own songs were even better . Wokajo are currently proving themselves to quite simply be one of the best rock bands not only on the west coast ..but in europe . Their music speaks for itself . With a debut album on the way that we're tipping to brake the Horslips record for 'fastest selling' Irish debut album and their debut single 'Insignificant' currently up for grabs you can catch them on their MySpace or tune into the 'live streamings' of their practice jams and gigs at Live Webstars via these handy link buttons.
If you were one of the many people who, like Eamon Carr, were heavily dissapointed by the recent solo attempt of Sharleen Spiteri ( vocals of glasgow rock giants Texas) then the following artist has given Sharleen the perfect blueprint of the kind of album that she should have done...not only that but this particular 18 year old from Galway also serves as a perfect tutor for how it should be sung too. As another rising star from the west coast, Neev, has reassembled her childhood memories and teenage experiences into a very professional array of songs with an equaly professional vocal delivery to give any fan of acousticated female rock a debut album well worth looking forward to. For songs that won't disappoint get your ears over to the following links...
Whenever someone mentions County Down I have this strange irrepressible urge to start counting backwards from ten to zero, but I've noticed that Ulsters 'Red Hand' has recently been firmly 'blooded and bathed' in the deepest depths of Rock and Roll. The tiny coastal town of Newcastle has spawned what may quite well be one of the greatest bands to ever emerge from Ulster and If you ever wandered whatever happened to those blinding rock bands of old who could reel of a continuos orgasm of soul wrenching riffs so tightly pressed together that they became indistinguishable from the best lead solo's ? then look no more as we have found 'The Answer' (and where rock and roll is concerned they realy are the answer). In fact, in recent years it seems that all of the main 'mega bands' of the past 40 years have been falling over themselves to try and sign the band up for all their forthcoming 'comeback' tours and right now The Answer are jamming their way through the states in one of the greatest comeback tours of all time alongside AC/DC (...the lucky bar stewards!). Their debut album called Rise is an absolute rock masterpiece..unfortunately the chances are that if you haven't already bought a copy you may well have to miss out as copies are dissappearing fast . If you do miss out don't worry too much as their new ep 'Never to late' is up on itunes and will also be hitting the hard copy in the form of one of the featured tracks in the latest upcoming Guitar Hero release on Playstation and a new album AND dvd following their meteoric rise into the cream of the top rock crop is due out very soon..If you get the chance catch them on the World tour with AC/DC . As a further vindication of their sound ,as if it were even needed, the celebrated rock icon of the Western World Sir Jimmy Page (...also known by some down under as the secret aussie superhero riiff pincher...see our Rock Cornerstone 4 page) described The Answer as ' THE ' band to see if you ever wanted to know what Led Zeppelin were like in concert at the very height of their own career in the seventies. You can find your own answer to everything you've ever missed about real rock n roll at the following links here......
In recent years there has been a flurry of international artists making a break for alternative avenues of revenue within the beauty industry..most notably by selling perfume. Brittany Spears, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez...they've all had a go at it and recently even Christina Aguiliera desguised herself as an 'albino' version of Kate Bush and shot an alternative version of Bush's 'Wow' video just to try to flog her own brand of the superstar smelly stuff! Well, not to be outdone by our American cousins, some of our own Irish home grown superheros among the new music elite have also been using their rising stardom as a perfect means to spread their own scented charms throughout the world. This new 'eau d' toilet' about to shake the foundations of the beauty world has it's humble musical origins in Kells - a town previously famed over the past thousand years for being the birthplace of one of the oldest and most brightly coloured literary treasures of the Western world - and it's was here, hidden along the 109 bus route from Dublin to Kells in a small cottage, that, for the last few years, the flamboyant dress sence of small herd of young males ( Podge McNamee, John Moore, Darcy and Ollie Murphy ) and their gifted female vocalist ( Niamh Farrell ) somehow managed to miraculously couple their flamboyant sense of 'style' with a 'layed back' musical creativity that hasn't realy been in evidence in the world scince Mick Fleetwood and friends laughed, joked, drank, cried, laughed again and then played their way throughout the nineteen seventies. Fast vocal hooks are frequently turned into faster 'upper cuts' as the vocal counterbalance between Farrell and lead guitarist Podge are given the special harmonic twist by the duo to present an off beat 'Human League-ish' sound...but all with a genuine style and deep lyrical content that was utterly absent in 80's 'pop'.
This new Supergroup giving a long awaited new reason for writing Kells on the map in BIG letters are also proving to be masters of the live set and inject intense passion and drama into all their stage shows along with a mesmerising attention to detail that could easily stir up hysteria in many...in fact the only way to quell and counteract the threat of such imminent fan hysteria was to choose a name that would create a false sence of the 'ordinary' ...a name such as 'Ham Sandwich' perhaps. Unfortunately, the end result is that unsuspecting newcommers turning up at Ham Sandwich gigs expecting the 'ordinary' or 'unexciting' end up leaving at the end of the night with a feeling that someone has just poured a few cases of the new perfume over their heads, emptied a spice rack on their taste buds, placed them in a confined space with a leaking gas main and lit a match!
The new perfume inspired by the bands guitarist McNamee is currently available in most pharmacies -and probably has been ever since Mick Fleetwood ceased drinking it - details on their add below left with a little 'Keepsake' below right - while the amazing debut album released on the same day that they were awarded a 'New Hope' Meteor Award is available via the following link with a new single and video due for release soon...So if you're having a Ham Sandwich for lunch one day and it suddenly goes click, click BOOM!...it might just be the band wearing the new perfume from McNamee...
